Love the feedback recently

Not sure why this is, but I've been seeing some really stellar feedback on people's WIPs lately, and I just wanted to say it's great to see. <3

Agreed. I think it's fair to assume that social media platforms are losing their appeal, and people are *very much* thirsty for places like here and are slowly but surely coming back. So, a big thank you to everyone behind the scenes putting time and resources into maintaining this place.

If anything I'd personally love for the Showcase and Critique section to be complemented by a "wall of current art" page, showing the first (or last ?) image of each thread, going back as far as possible. In principle there's nothing wrong with the oldschool display of thread titles but it doesn't really make things visible (the magnifying glass helps but is a bit tedious). Such an art wall wouldn't replace the text based view, but could be a handy complementary page and a good resource for browsing.

The site homepage does that to an extent, but it only highlighting threads with replies as a "best of" defeats its purpose quite a bit IMHO.

Yeah, its all about discovery too. I am surprised how so many students or artists going in games dont know about this gem of a website. I hope it stay  another 10 years and beyond.

Hmm, cool idea pior. I’ll dig around in the back rooms a bit see what I can find for this.

Yeah it's been a great thing to see!

I'm gonna put it out there, if you need  a hand with coding any features for the site, happy to volunteer some effort.

Quality of feedback is one thing, but there's still times when it's basically down to coincidence if people get feedback at all, which is a shame. Obviously, there are also reasons for that at times, and it's not a glaring problem right at the moment, but I wonder if it would help to encourage people more to also give feedback to others when they are posting their works.
While giving feedback is mentioned in the "How to use Polycount" and "information about Polycount" threads, I bet there are still many who believe they have no business giving feedback when they are still learning themselves, but everyone knows something (and be it just a personal impression) and you'll basically never stop learning in our line of work. It still should be constructive and offer more than a mere "I like it", of course.

this is why I hinted earlier; art critique loot boxes should be a thing. Andrew Wilson of Electronic Arts walked so that we artists at Polycount could run. Todd Howard's horse armour was mare-ly the beginning.

Neigh! Imagine a platform where young creative minds could go to, splash a few Polybux, and have a 10% chance of getting the advice they so desperately need, and possibly even a 0.4% chance of getting 1 on 1 mentorship.

The strategies of crystalizing our investments in Polycount are at hand. We simply need to reach out and grasp it. Gatcha_will_make_us_God!

Gosh, I really hope this is true! All the other platforms that have been recommended as activity on polycount decreased (reddit, facebook groups, discord, etc...) don't appeal to me at all. More forums that don't algorithmically push outrage-bait engagement would be better for many reasons. Maybe there is even some desire to get away from the gamification of online communication? I know I've been guilty of hitting + :) instead of adding to a conversation.

Either way, nice personal reminder to post more feedback and maybe even some personal art again!  :#

I always pause before ticking the + button. Can I voice a coherent opinion instead? Because that’s always better. But if time is limited, the plus is a nice little thing to give out imho.

wanted to chime in once again a big thank you for Eric for keeping this place alive ! i also agree that people are fed up with micro bubbles of discords\reddits\art communities and seeing the true potential of Polycount and other forums. Thanks man and everyone here involved. When i teach i keep sending people to the polycount wiki wich has EVERYTHING you need to suceed in this industry.

Sweet, thanks. Good to hear this place is useful for people. Just keeping the lights on and the taps filled in the old pub down the street. Here, while you sip, enjoy this free bowl of nuts.

Reckon, this is an example of some comprehensive critique people have shared lately.
