Modelling from primitives

Hi, everyone. So recently i've started learning 3ds Max from zero. I've learned a bit about primitives and decided to model something by using primitives. I jumped into pinterest and looked for some ideas, and found a picture of a water tower. I took that as a reference and started modelling. So, what do you think of this model? Let me know your opinions

Hi! What does the reference look like?

Starting out, perhaps the Modular Environment section in the wiki gives you some ideas how to approach environment assets.

👋😀👍: looks like a water tower, you did it.
? now just imagine if you created the best looking water tower ever!
imagine the possibilities, so much water.

Aye, learning the tools is the best.  What i would do is now also do it in blender, everyone seems to be moving eventually to blender, since this looks like week one for you then, probably a good idea to learn both your current choice and blender.

Hello, sorry for posting late but here's the reference i took.

    Good start!

Although the proportions are a bit different, look at the four main vertical beams, yours are a lot thicker.

Each side has a single diagonal support per section, but you put two diagonals in an X shape. Look more closely at the concept.

You have horizontal planks under the barrel, but these should be railroad beams instead, see the concept. You can make one of these using a line Shape in the Top view, then adding a Sweep modifier.

Add the ladder, and the pipe.

    Keep going!
