I wont by any other than a nvidia card. Cause i need to render on GPU. And AMD cards arnt supported by renderer we use.
I would go for a gaming card with a lot of video ram. For example a 3060 with 12gb.

I wouldn't run anything other than Nvidia on the grounds that they have always had  better driver support than AMD

I'd be less concerned about total memory than memory bandwidth

80 series cards are significantly better in designer/painter than 70 series because of the wider memory bus even though historically they have had the same amount of memory

If you're interested in Maya viewport performance then don't bother, its not the GPU making it slow unless you're running something truly shit

I vote for more vram cause we have trouble to render our scenes if the card has only 8gb. Renderman xpu for example recommends a min of 11gb vram.

But if you dont render heavy scenes 8gb are fine.

That's a fair point if using GPU accelerated renderers.

    If you're targeting unreal/unity etc and don't have 3090 money I'd take a previous gen 80series over a current gen 60 series

I strongly agree with this. I would recommend 1080ti, 2080ti, titan V or rtx or 3090 if you can afford it.

Try to find second hand card...

1080 is the oldest workable card if you want to paint at 4k

    2070 super is ok

3070 seems fine based on the 100+ artists I have using them, 3080 is definitely fine

If you're on a lower budget the 1660ti is probably a better bet than a 3050 - I can't say for sure since I've not tested low end stuff but on paper you want to avoid anything ending in 50

You won't save any money on a second hand card. 1070s are going for more than original RRP on eBay and my 3080 is currently worth almost double what I paid for it
