Found this wicked concept by Cole Eastburn, thought I could whip it up in less than a week!
Here's what I got so far. Texturing has sort of just started.

One thing you could add (altough it's not in the concept) is some indirect lighting on the lamp frame. Or place an actual light in there? (Hm no, I thing painting it would look more nice)
Considering the theme, I think the pushing the mounting plate of the tentacle more towards a porthole could be interesting too.
Regarding the presentation, it would be cool if there was some subtle ao around the mounting plate (or maybe even a piece of wall) to ground the model.
