Stylized Rock House

Hi! Ive been working on my new project a house made of rocks! Im planning on making this with sub-d modelling for the rocks and then foe the bone parts im going to sculpt them in zbrush. This is how far ive gotten with the block out so far.

Update, the moon bit took me longer than i thought it would but almost done with the block out! I think the most challenging part will be getting the triangle parts on the top

Got in the triangles on the top using instances in maya, added some stuff to the back of the model so it looks cool, and started on blocking out the fabric parts. I had to make the top part a lot bigger than the concept to help make the triangle parts make sense in 3D.

@ThisisVictoriaZ I think this is coming along well! The scale and proportions look solid, and I love how well the shapes match up with the exaggerated shapes of the concept. Look forward to seeing what this looks like textured!

Progress~ I added the fabrics, colored materials, and cleaned up the topology! Gonna start sculpting out the windows next in zbrush

Progress on this, I've imported it into zbrush and added in the windows! Still have a lot more to do with the shapes

Decimated the mesh from zbrush and brought it into maya, started working on making the cracks and separations on the bones! Took me a bit to get down the technique for making the bones look good but now that I've got the hang of it its going really smoothly

Progress since last time i posted, i started making the low poly inside for the windows and door, finished the low for the bones and started unwrapping them! It took me a while to figure out the best way to make the insides for the windows, i tried a few different methods but ended up starting over completely every time. So far using quad draw has been the easiest and most accurate

WIP textures, i painted on all of the stripes bits and gave them height, I also made a tiling texture for the small scratches and pock marks in designer, then masked it so you have little random ones here and there

Added a lot more details to this, two different grunge maps with different roughness to make the base of the building more interesting and less flat, and painted on details to the bones!

Texture updates and imported into Unreal! I had a simple outline shader but I haven't touched the lighting or camera settings yet so those are all default still

This is looking really nice! Could be fun to play with the AO having color instead of black, I feel like that may push the stylized feel more with the linework

Played around with the lighting, camera settings, added a purple color to the ao, shaped the ground plane aaaaaand added a WIP sky/clouds painting!

looks great! though I'd suggest easing up a bit on the clouds and letting the blue of the sky show through a bit more.

@Lewis_kennedy I agree the clouds are getting to be a bit too much, I'm planning on lessening them, and I was also thinking about making them a bit less fluffy

My current progress! Ive been working on getting the bg painting to look better, added a height fog, made the ao a but more blue, and ive been trying to get the lines on the building a bit more sharp and less blurry than they were before

Just out of curiosity is this the raw render straight out of the program ?

I have few suggestions :

- move your object so its not dead center it create more interesting composition

-right now colors look washed out ,yellow tint might work for the concept but you have blue sky so its completely different story its better to add blue which will harmonize colors also will enhance blue/purple and pop red/orange

-you could use areal prospective to give depth if you look close at left side my version is blurry and less colorful

- there are bunch of other simple tricks that you could use to keep viewer inside the picture like vignette or dark rock or vegetation shape in corners that will work as blockers or frame also clouds could point to the object using some interesting arabesque

@carvuliero this is a render from unreal engine 4! Thank you for taking the time to write out these tips and to even give a visual representation, I really appreciate it! Even though I've finished this project and have no intentions on continuing to work on this, I will keep these tips in mind for my next project!
