  You can use ''Seam From Islands'' and then Shift G > Select Seam.

  It works, but I want a way of doing this in the UV editor, so I can modify the shape of the UV islands.

  Textools by @renderhjs does this. He hasn't updated it for 2.8 yet, but someone else has made an attempt: https://github.com/SavMartin/TexTools-Blender

  I found out! U have to turn on 'UV sync selection' and in the 3D viewport go to Select > Similar > Seams

  If I may say (and for the sake of people potentially searching for this question and finding this thread) : while what you describe may have fixed your problem, it actually is *not* a solution to your initial question.
  
  Select similar > Seams will indeed select all edges marked as seams based on a current selection. In your case it worked because you probably manually marked these seams yourself in the first place. But this action will not select unmarked UV borders.
