Texture not showing up in mental ray

Noob question of the day incoming:

Just made a texture for a model and it's rendering ok when im rendering it with maya software but when i switch over to mental ray it renders completly black. Im using maya 2012. Anyone out there knows whats going on?

Chances are it's your file texture type. Avoid PSDs, stick with PNGs, TARGAs, or TIFFs.

Yeah what he said, Mental ray will not render the texture from a psd, but if you just want to see it on the model. Psd is fine for viewport or hardware renders.

I've never had issues with TGA files and Mental Ray, TIFF is usually trouble though.

Depending on the tiff compression method, it may not read it. Mental ray doesn't support LZW compression (whatever that means). You can always open it in photoshop and save it with a different compression method though.

I am having the same issue, so I changed my file type from psd to tga but still I am getting the same problem in view port it is showing fine but while rendering with mental ray it is showing black. any suggestions would be helpful.

Yes do not use mental ray. its a dead renderer.
