Shadows on invisible floor

Hi guys,
Perhaps this is painfully simple, and I'm just missing something obvious.
If i have a plane under the asset,I cant make it receive shadows when its alpha is 0.
I would like to have my object to cast shadows unto an invisible floor, so when I save with alpha, I just get the asset and shadows, but without background.
Is that possible?
