WIP victorian room environment

Hi,
Im new to polycount and I hear great things about the community here.
I recently took an environment class from Clinton Crumpler to learn how to create environments in UE4 so I can become more familiarized with the process and better at the art. As you can see I still have a LONG ways to go. I will keep working on it and posting my progress, Im looking forward to learn and share with you.

Hey good start, you already have a good lighting, can't wait to see the progress

How did you manage the leaves on the ground? All are meshes or some are textures? The dark ones on the third shot looks a bit strange to me.

Nice work as was said i like your lighting it's really soft and appealing, I feel like the rug should not be as straight as it is with things like the chair overturned and stuff maybe the rug would have a corner turned up or something

I don't think you have very far to go at all .I'd say you're winning. I do a lot of interior rendering. And by that I mean photoreal physically based rendering. And i'd say this realtime room is on-par. Plus it has a nice painterly look to it which is very cool.

very nice! those leaves don't sit right at all, seem a bit bright perhaps. otherwise im loving it so far. Maybe give that rug some nice depthy pom fibers, it also looks slightly incorrectly scaled - stretched a bit on one axis

Thanks. everyone.
I did the leaves using the foliage tool in unreal with a basic color and normal. I totally agree with Chimp, the leaves dont sit well and I will redo them. Great point Adelphia, that rug texture is bugging me a ton and to break up the corners will be a really good addition.

I'm currently adding some extra dust and creating some extra props, I will post updates and work on what we talked about here, thanks for your comments.

Geezus, great lighting ! Nice use of modularity too. The simulated cloths look great and are a nice touch, and I definitely agree the carpet could use some beating up, maybe folded over a bunch? Show us some breakdowns sometime!

The lighting is looking really good! I think that with a few more meshes and fixes to the leaves and the rug should help bring out the realism!

Thanks for the input. On this last update I messed up the carpet a bit, added dust using a world space vector + environment AO to make the environment fell more connected and also did work on the leaves so they fell better integrated with the level.
Next I will keep working on the props to add more story to this level.
Thanks Clinton, I've got some really good notes since class and Rogelio Olguin has been a great help.

ps: just noted some parts where the dust is not continuous, will be fixing those tonight.

That little change to the rug make such a difference and nice job on the crumples and folds. Will be following this, looking forward to the final result.

If there was a tree imposing via a window, as if It's fallen weird onto the window, the leaves would make a lot more sense. perhaps even be a 2nd focal point (first one being the bed at this point).

I agree with the rest, the lighting is super awesome!

Beard3D Bandit thats a great point and I didnt even think about before. The main though on the leaves is that the wind brought them in from the trees outside (which I still have to create). I still have quite a bit of props to create and set dress, and thats is what Im working on now. After that, I will work on the exterior. But I want to keep that simple so I dont make this project last for too long.

Great work so far! I think it would be really cool to breakup the back wall closest to the window by adding the sun faded outline of a picture/frame that used to hang there for years once upon a time.

shabba. I like that idea. I was planing on having one of the picture frame be on the ground, that makes it even better. Are you talking about the wall next to the bed or fireplace? Im thinking I would add that detail as a decal on the wall.

Very good so far, only thing that puzzles me a bit is that every object have significant amount of dust (looks good tho) only walls are somewhat in good shape. Where that dust come from?

The lighting looked better before the AO, still great though. The middle arch also doesn't look quite as dusty and grimy as the rest of the scene, at least from the angles presented. Excellent work otherwise, especially on the texturing.

thanks @FreneticPonies . I agree that those spots dont look very natural. I have spot lights point towards the windows to brighten that area. I will test and tone them down and see how it looks. I agree that I should have a stronger contrast, specially with how much lighting I have coming from the window.
The arch will be moved next on my to do list. I need to create a beated wood material to add to those areas and break up that spec, looks too uniform. Right now Im working on the ceiling and I should have some updates soon

@Raphe the whole scene is looking awesome! the only thing I could say is that the wood on the arch doesn't look as good as the rest. It seams a bit shiny. Maybe more roughness?
Anyways, that my little critique. Great job!

Overall this gets better and better, but as you wanted feedback - curtains look too perfect (they make almost rectangle)

Nice! I agree with @sadiablo, Curtains are too ridgid. Maybe make them longer like touching the floor, and grundge them up like you did the rug. The pattern might also be improved too. Maybe by being larger to appear less noisy? maybe something like this image?

It has been a while since I posted here but I have been hard at work on this project. After many late nights, I'm calling it complete. Thank you for all your feedback, it has helped me grow a lot as an artist. Here are some screenshots.
