Hi all,

So I'm curious about internships at video game companies. I graduated from college 4 years ago, and I'm wondering, would I still be able to apply to internships at companies? When I look at some companies' websites they make it sound like they want people who are still in school. Is this true, or if someone who has been out of college for a couple of years or several years still be able to apply and get an internship?

Any feedback on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

Well, some companies seem to only offer academic internship. While some other offer 'cheaper alternative to hiring' internship. The latter should not care if you're a student currently or not.

ArenaNet internship, for instance, doesn't care if you're a student currently or not.

@PyrZern I'm thinking about applying to the company if they offer internships even if they do show that they are idealing looking for people who are students, or just graduated. Do you think I would be wasting my time if I just applied anyways?

That is up to you... Sometimes you will have to do the art test, and send it along with your application. I been doing it for 3 times (read: 3 years in a row), still not getting it :P  I did the Character position one, obviously.  --->> My art test entry : https://www.artstation.com/artwork/ZReom

@Alemja, on the other hand, got it on her 3rd try, I believe.

You can still apply, but it is incredibly unlikely it being 4 years out of school.  The longest I've seen is 1 year, and that's with Disney's internship program and they're weird.

I think you'd be wasting your time.  You're 4 years out of uni.  You should be getting paid as a post-graduate.

From my location. game companies are going bust. Internship sounds like free, regardless fo your age, skill set or your experience.

@PyrZern It took me 4 times :proud:

Not every company offers an internship, but for those that do the time out of school doesn't matter, it's your portfolio, or in the case of some company, an art test you have complete. You just have to be able to hit the quality they are looking for.

    Hey Kevin,

I think I would need to see a folio before I could tell you if you could get an internship 4 years out of education.
Some places don't require a recent academic background to get you in the door, others do, but if your folio is full of four year old art I doubt that anyone will offer you a place regardless of when you graduated.
