Hello. This is a project I am currently working on. I would like to share my updates here.
Its a top-down, handpainted environment. My plan is to make some kind of stone altar to light up the forrest while it is a little dark. feedback is very welcome.

Some of the textures so far. I am not sure what to do about that grass texture. Next will be some more tilable grass/dirt textures to mix it up. Made a dirt placeholder for now.(brown grass texture)

I like your idea about blending different grass textures. Though perhaps still add a little dirt or color variation and contrast to this one aswel.
Now it feel too "bland". Perhaps it is also missing some depths?

Changed light settings, and changed the colors of a lot of the model textures. updated the grass texture with some more contrast, dirt and detail. Also made another one with some flowers, to mix it up more. Added a dirt texture, some lianas, a bush and grass models.

I made some new tilables for grass, and fixed the dirt texture as it was easy to tell it was tiling. Added some rocks to the scene. The ground textures now blend a lot better. I slightly changed the light settings.

Maybe you can add more color contrast on the textures. Right now they look flat. Adding more interesting variations will increase the level of the environment.

I made the ruined altar and added some particles. Changed the light settings again.
Next thing is to make the scene tell more about what happened at this place. I tried out adding some blood on the ruin, but it got to messy to read. So I am not sure about what to add next. It is going to be some pretty small assets, footsteps or something. I'm still thinking about adding some blood trails leading into the deeper forrest.
@Vollgaser Im going to add some more defined highlights on some of the foliage. I agree, they look a little flat.
