Hi all!
Not much to see here yet, but we started working on a Bizon skin for our first submission. The last couple of days have gone to cleaning up the original Bizon model so it smooths nicely. Now we can import it to Zbrush and start the detail work. We are going for a 70's themed skin.

Baking and texturing next

The bakes are done, minus some minor errors witch will be fixed soon. We tested out the new Handplane Baker with no cages and the bakes turned out quite good. Time to see how it looks in-game.

I think it turned out very cool. Can I ask you a question about your technique? As far as I understood, you retopologized it and sculpted it in Zbrush. But how can you bake it into original model after changing it's topology and UV's?

I only change the topology of the high-poly mesh. I use the game model as the low-poly mesh with the original uv map from Valve. Sometimes you just have to do some cleanup, like overlapping UV islands etc. to not get artifacts in your bakes. Let me know if anything is unclear

Hello again, sorry for lots of questions. With your reply, do you mean to say that you have 2 completely different models? One, the original and the other, with modified topology and UVs. You then sculpt the modified model. Since I'm quite new to this, I couldn't really understand how could you bake the sculpting from the second model to the first model. Because at the end, the second model has a different geometry, different topology and different UVs. Can you clear this up a bit more?

Hi,
I tried to make a step by step illustration. Not sure how helpful and explaining it is.
For the high poly you don't need matching topology or UVs. If you use the original model from valve as a low poly bake mesh it should work fine.

Got the morning to play with the textures in Substance Painter. Don't expect to see a nice pbr shader in csgo, but with render to texture i can fake something decent.
I'll be gone for a couple of days. Hope i can wrap this up when i get back home

This is really fantastic. that smiley on the back of the ammo tube is a great touch. The color choices are absolutely spot on for the time period / theme. I cannot wait to see how this progresses. Easily one of my favorites from this contest so far, and it's not even done! I really need to sit down and start learning more, the methods you used work so well.

I get on the hype train, it looked good as a baked 3d, but now as you started texturing and I was able to see colour selection I think it's one of my favs in the whole contest, amazing work!

The smiley on the back is a pressure/heat instrument. I hope it will be clearer when the texture is done.
I wish i had more time on this skin, but I will do my best to wrap it up nicely. This will be a long night!

Ingame test!

Lots of stuff to fix. I screwed up the colors too much. I miss that orange i had earlier. There are also too little detail in the texture and a bit too much contrast. 1 step forwards, 2 steps back

This is shaping up to be one of my favorite Bizons so far. I like the fabric effect you did, and unlike a lot of the other sculpted guns in the challenge, it looks like everything baked well. Looking forward to decals.

This is the nicest design out of the bizon's. really great job. My only concern is the blues are blowing out too strong from the in-game shots. If this doesnt make it in the case, maybe you should look at darkening the overall texture. Really solid work. I expect to see something in from you at some point.
