is there an option to straighten uv strips in polyunwrapper? i was recommened to use this over textools but so far only in textool i can find an option to do this

Do you mean straighten the UV border edges or straighten the UV shell?

straighten uv shell, so far i have to use textools, which has the option to select one edge and it make the whole strip vertical or horizontal

Yes, PU has that feature: transform tab>align shell to edge. All the tools have tooltips. Just hover the mouse and be educated.....
