Hey guys, first time skinner here so would appreciate any advice, particularly regarding the weapon finishes (patina/gunsmith/custom) as that's all a bit foreign to me at the moment. Cheers to Polycount and Valve for the contest.
Inspired by Tron, my first step is to create a low-poly landscape in 3D, and export as a vector to Illustrator to tidy up.
- Modeling the landscape in 3D
- Editing the exported 2D mesh
Replies
- Mockup of graphic to check size/position
- First shot at editing the UV mesh
Little update, tidied up the detailing, added some more texture and toned down the neons.
What software are you guys using for the projection?
Edit: forgot to mention that i think the skin looks dope
Here it is in the workshop:
Bit the bullet and submitted it to workshop. Bit daunting when it's the first one, a lot of forms to fill in...
Appreciate any votes or feedback you guys have.
Here's the pattern I'm trialing. The outer triangles are temporary, I'll change them into more of a "mesh" to fit the theme and give them a slight glow once I'm happy with the fit of the pattern.
And here's the pattern applied to the bizon with a few variations:
I'm pesonally not a fan of the random pattern on the bizon, but it is low tier and you never know what valve will add there ^^
If you are working on those patterns try using different finish styles. (I assume you used custom paint Job) With a little trial and error you can use those strongly underrepresentated finishes to increase your chance of getting the skin into the game.
Also I was wondering if you found a good software for the projection. I am currently using blender to add reference points onto the model and then align my skin with them later. Huge effort for relatively poor results tbh
For projection my googling seems to all point towards using '3dcoat'. But at $380 it's not an easy decision to buy just for csgo skinning..
