Learning 2D Game Art

Hi,

I want to be able to design 2d game art for mobile games.

I have been learning art fundamentals for around six months, what should I be doing to learn art for this specific genre?

Are there any good books or video courses specifically aimed at 2d game design people would recommend? or even what could I be practicing drawing?

I would suggest practicing Photoshop whenever you can and study some of the most popular 2D mobile games and the kind of art styles they have. IMO a popular style is the cartoony/stylized, vector or hand-painted look using a simple colour palette. For example: http://kingdomrush.com/

I have been focusing on the hand-painted look for 3D models recently, but the similar concept, techniques and style applies to some of the 2D stuff out there. It's pretty quick and simple to do, easy on the eyes and trending.

I would suggest pixel art at first, to understand the workflow for pc before you dive in to mobile unless you are working with unity 3d.

The reason being, pixel art can be as easy as you want it to be and as simple as you want it to be, or it could be more complex. Just until you have a firm grasp on the workflow.
