Workflow for Modeling Weapons

I've been modeling guns for a while, mostly handguns. I've been using 3ds Max, but I have been having problems with the time and tedious task it requires. Is Zbrush the appropriate program to erect guns? What about the inner mechanics of the gun, what do you do about them in Zbrush? I want to know the workflow of how to create professionally modeled guns. For a while now, I have been creating "Ehh" guns and now I would like to take it to the next step. Links to tutorials, advice, and in general any input that you think helps would be great and much appreciated.
