CGSociety have just put up an interesting article about Mari, the 3D texture painting application that was used on Avatar, and is currently being pushed towards Beta form. Well worth a read, this could be where the future of high-resolution texturing is headed!

Examples like this make me wonder where the gaming industry will lay in terms of texture, polygon handling in the upcoming years. It's incredible.

i think texturing is by farm the most unrefined part of the 3d art pipeline. it has always felt uncomfortable to me, and i dread finishing a model knowing that i have a pain in the ass ahead of me to finish it up.

this will be at the top of my watch list
