Abandoned ship

Hey this is my first post, I recently just finished this piece and any critique would be helpfull. Also if anyone has good advice for lighting I would appreciate it.

If anyone is curious I used 3ds max, Quixel suited and Unreal 4 for this project.

The first thing I said when I saw it, "If abandoned why does it have emergency lights." Are you trying to go for a recently abandoned ship or extended amount of time.

IMHO it might benefit from some secondary light sources, even if it's just a recently-dropped flashlight or some glowing displays or buttons. Or one of those mobile light things they use at construction sites.

Nice environment. More reflection from the water on the walls perhaps, and less fog?

Also, maybe the old trick of a light source under the stairs, for shadows.

Couple of thing I notice. I feel like the lights should be duller/more grime covered to give everything that worn down feel at the moment it feels quite new/fresh in the ingame renders (looks good on the close up; brightness of light/emissive map covers any details). And finally the ware on the stairs seems to be a bit all over and not in specific location where you would expect.

Assets themselves look pretty good, feel like the lighting and atmosphere is letting it down at the moment. There is also not much to it, as its a standalone environment I think you could do more with it to make it stand out or have a bit of environmental storytelling, like the room through the door is pretty much empty and only hidden by the fact its so dark.

The piece it self looks good enough, but it's really missing that pop. You have an opportunity to tell a story, to get your viewer to relate to the piece.

Like I ask myself, why is the ship being abandoned? It could be as simple as some blood stains on the wall, a shadowy figure running down the corridor, or like some kind of maintenance tools that look hastily left behind. I don't know, just some thoughts.

Or if it's just an old ship that has been abandoned, I wouldn't necessarily think the lights should work properly, there would be a lot of dust or whatever around.
