Hello Everyone I'm modeling the Doomhammer for some practice in PBR materials I plan to try to make it looks as life like as possible I am just in the begginning modeling stages at the moment the next step is to take it into zbrush

If anyone has any suggestions on a good way to do that leather grip that would be very awesome as well as I was thinking about adding some of those spike elements to the hammer like in the top image? What do you guys think?

I would model that leather grip personally. You could sculpt it but having actual straps would look better in the bake. It will have a more realistic AO.

yeah thats a good idea probably model the grip in and then sculpt the actual geo? do you maybe have a suggested way to model a grip?

here is some updates i started working on a a grip im not really quite sure if this is a good method on doing it im kinda going for a wrapped leather type of grip any feedback is appreciated i also added some more bolts and some spikes

I changed the workflow of the grip, this looks better wrapped I think but im thinking about how can i can somehow get parts of it that are not so uniform in the wrap like in the reference any feedback would be great !

Finally getting back to this, started zbrushing it, I plan to add some notches on the metal bands, then do a pass on the leather. I Plan to to do the bolts high poly in maya as well as the top of the hammer, looking for any type of critques, still trying to get better at zbrush =D

After that I am going to texture it probably in substance.

This is making great progress. Captures the proportions nicely of the weapon.

I think the Zbrush sculpt is about 95% done i might mess with the leather straps a bit more to make them feel a bit more right. does anyone have any feedback, i would be more then happy to hear some.

Straps are looking good, maybe a bit too wrinkly though? I'd smooth them out in the middle and make the edges more frayed to give them a more solid/tight look, but it's up to you.
Other than that the cracks seem a bit thin which makes the stone look brittle (It is stone, right?) The damage on the metal and on the stone are too similar I say. I'd do another damage pass over the entire head following the first concepts with thicker but shallower cracks/chips, to make the stone look dented and well used instead of heavily damaged/on the verge of breaking. Try and differentiate the materials, the surface noise is a start. Nice work though

hey there thanks for the feedback, Yeah i was planning on hitting the head again with some more wartorn damage to make it feel like it has been used, and yes you are right the head is stone im happy you can tell, I think differentiating the rock from the metal will help sell that aspect more, as well as i agree i think i should tighten the leather up a tad bit more ill mess with that. Thank you

another WIP i decided to make the head feel more wartorn and used it was a bit too sharp and solid for my liking, i also tried to add more crease and edge to the straps, any feedback is appreciated

Looks good except maybe the material/render. The specularity to me looks a bit plastic.

Looks tight! is that head bit the right size? it looks small to me.
also I agree with @Leinadien
Materials are looking plastic, and very matte in some parts.

Sweet, like the glowing one. I think the leather looked better when it had wear on the outside edges of each strap? The wood could do with a bit more dirt/discolouration where it meets the metal. Otherwise awesome!
