3ds Max insert edge loop problem

Quite often when I'm working in Max i'll get a problem where my insert edge loop line will flicker in an out or not appear on the surface at all. Moving the camera very far away fixes the problem and the loop appears but then I just cant see where I'm putting it anyway.
The way I have been getting by for years was just putting it in the general area then zooming in and ctrl-alt dragging it into place but its just slowing me down and being too much of a nuisance to ignore any longer.

How can I get rid of this problem?

I just select one of the edges and press Zoom Extents Selected (Z by default). That resets the clipping planes for the Perspective view, should solve it.

Sorry that doesn't work. Resetting xform doesn't do anything either. I think its just something to do with the scenes unit size. I really don't want to have to resize everything though.

As a workaround you could create an instance of your model, scale it up and work on that. Max also has a scene rescale tool in the utilities that you could maybe use.

You could try to set your system unit setup to something coherent with your scene (centimeters or millimeters).

Nope, doesn't change anythingn and camera clipping aswell. Good work autodesk.
