Hello everybody! I recently started modeling a garden environment with a early 1900's aesthetic, located in Southernish England. This is intended to be hand painted. Please feel free to give critiques!
This looks really neat!
I'm excited to see more. Please tell me you will include an adorable little bird!
What programs are you using, and what will the final render be done in?
Thanks so much KDawg! I'm for sure going to put it in Unity. Possibly even in UDK! Though I heard marmoset is pretty neat for final renders. (So in short, I'm still not sure. Recommendations please!!)
As for the bird, I want it to be my focal point! It would probably be a guide that leads you to this secret door.
Here is more of my hacky blockout to show what I'm talkin' bout.
Trying to catch up on work, apologies for the slow updates! I was at GDC Did any of you guys go?
@wirrexx thanks so much! can't wait to see your textures! @lucashug thank you so much! Will try to update it more. @blinkthingy Thanks! This is my first 3d environment piece so I'm much more comfortable painting it out first. lol.
@josfield thank you so much! @wirrexx thanks color variation is super important!! Yeah just let me know if you need any more advice! : ) @bardmayers82 Thanks! Hopefully it'll get where I want it to go.
Thanks everyone for the encouragement! Will update again sometime soon. : )
This looks very promising!
Have you considered blind arcades for some of the walls?
But maybe that would be looking too posh for what you have in mind.
@Prose_One thank you! : ) @and_im_javert Thanks! I think I enjoy painting bricks too much. @CybranM Yes! I changed it into a 2-way tile in hopes to improve upon that. @Noren Thank you so much for the advice! While I personally don't think blind arcades would fit, I did add more of an arching structure around the door frame + break ups in the wall!
I've worked on it a little since my last update. Just wanted to revive this thread.
Here the current look! Advice/Critiques much appreciated. : )
Looks amazing Great texture work. I remember in the movie it had tonnes of luscious amounts of vegetation. Almost like an abandoned garden, but it was looked after by nature it self. Would be beautiful to see this replicated in here.
Wooooooooow Unity 5 lighting is so much better. ^_^ Here is a quick update. My plan is to put some bricks to break up the top and corner of the wall and blending the ground terrain! Focusing on the door area to get a target for how polished I want the whole thing to be.
For some reason my max file in unity isn't showing all of my foxglove model??? Gotta solve that issue. Here is what some of the models look like unlit! : )
As for parts of the model missing in Unity, the first thing I would check is the face normals. If some are flipped then those planes will not show if the shader you are using is not double-sided. (A lot of 3D apps show back faces by default but a lot of game shaders will not.)
@TomGT Me too! thank you so much! : DD @Fenyce thanks! I really love your flower models and painting style as well! So clean! @Jessica JESSIICAAAAA!!! Hi! Thanks so much for your encouragement p.s. You were right posting on polycount is super awesome. ^_^ @darkmag07 Hmmm. I will have to check that out, thank you! @lucashug haha! I will try to do another update soon. : ) Thanks!
Thanks for your support everyone!! Means a lot. !!
Update! Let me know what you guys think. I solved the foxglove problem by putting a shell modifier on the models! : ) Been trying to push the mood as well.

Can't wait to see the scene lit like your paint over concept!

More! We need more!!!!!!
