Help with some Career Advise.

Hey guys, my name is Kay, i am a second year university of Portsmouth student studying games Technology. I have high ambitions of becoming an environment artist and i would like some advice on what paths to take. If any of you guys are environment artists currently id like to know how you started and where you are now and any difficulties you went through and just general advice on becoming a successful artist.

I don't consider myself a successful artist yet, but I've been doing this for a while. Set your bar high right off the bat, competing with your student peers is nice, but that won't cut it when you're competing with professional artists for jobs.

Also, if you're interested in game art, then Polycount is the best place to post your work. Get involved and post something here to receive feedback. It's the most efficient way to get better and grow as an artist.

In terms of which path to take with environment art in mind. Find the thing in environment art that you enjoy the most, and run with it. usually, a nice place to start is with doing simple props. If you're starting out, make something simple and try to figure out a proper workflow. Do something that gets you excited.

I think first off you need to work on your writing skills. Your spelling and grammar both need work. College is a perfect time to work on it.

You kinda answer your own question, you start by doing it that's all, and you keep on improving that's all, there's no magic trick.
