Autocad 3d drawing to 3ds Max model

Hi,
My problem is that client sent me Autocad 3d drawing file and I can't convert it to 3ds Max model. When I open dwg in 3ds Max it looks like this:

The problem is that this is only a bunch of splines and there is no surface (as you can se viewing mode is 'shaded' no 'wireframe'. Can anyone tell me is there any trick to convert it to a solid model ??

I worked with a lot of cad files for playmobil in the last months and used 3dsmax to convert them to normal models. I got the autocad data as *.stl and *.stp files from the client.

You could ask your client to send you the files in these formats. They can be meshed inside 3dsmax.

I opened file (dwg) in autocad and tried import to stl. It tells me that there is no solids (only lines). I tried to convert it to solids (CONVTOSOLIDS command) and it tells:

Cannot convert an open curve.
1184 objects cannot be converted.
