Monitor Recommendation - For Real time rendering and Photoshop

Hello Folks

I need some advice.
I have a monitor, it's a samsung 24inch 226BW model.
Now I need a new monitor as primary and use this one that I have as a secondary, for references etc.

I mainly do sculpting in Zbrush, real-time render(game art/game) in marmoset,and texture, concept, and pre/post production in Photoshop.
Any recommendation? My budget is from 300usd to 600usd. It should support sRGB and at least 24inches, but I would prefer 27-30inch if there is.

I'd get a 1600p or 1440p IPS panel.

Yes I would recommend some sort of IPS panel. e-IPS at minimum (generally only 6 bit) but better a proper IPS with 8-10 bit depth if color accuracy is important to you. A VA panel would also work well.

Definitely avoid any TN panel if art is your main use. All TNs have poor viewing angles/color reproduction.

For that matter your Samsung monitor is likely a TN panel, which may make it a poor choice for secondary monitor/viewing reference, that is to say if you need to match color accuracy with one screen to the next it will be difficult. If its for reference where color matching is not important, it will be fine.

Dell makes some good and very cheap e-IPS panels, and some higher end proper IPS panels (usually in the $400-700 range) that are all very easy to recommend.

Those Korean panels do seem to be a very good value, but you usually have to pay extra to get one guaranteed not to have dead pixels, shipping it back to Korea will be a hassle if there are any problems, and the stands are generally VERY basic compared to a dell. Take from that what you will.

Also beware that a lot of the cheaper 27" models, even if some sort of IPS screen, are often 1080P which is just really dumb. A 27" screen should be at least 2560 x 1440 otherwise you're better off with two 24"s.

I have the Asus PB278Q ($450) and love it. The semi-matte coating is great. I used a Dell 27" (forget model) at work at the matte coating was a bit too strong. Although they could have fixed that with the newer models. Something else to consider is the AOC Q2770. It came up in the thread for the PB278Q.

I recommend it again, Yamakasi Catleap or similar from Ebay. Theyre new from Korea, and use the same panel as the 1000$ Apple Cinema Display.

1440p 27" S-IPS for a unbeatable price, you can get them for around 300$ + shipping
You only cut down on monitor options and input / audio

i wonder are those really 120hz as i know ips can't offer 120hz due to some hardware limits.
if these Korean ips panels can go up to 120hz, how do they really perform while gaming and watch videos?

Though I live in Asia. Buying a korean brand seems like a bad idea, unless if there is local supplier(which I doubt). Shipping will a pain too since.

So I'm torn between Dell U2157H and Asus PB278Q.

4k is hard to power, and Windows 7/8 does not scale well at that resolution. You also need to make sure you have a display port that can do 4k at 60HZ.

If you are on a budget but also want a bit of quality + size with a low price point, I recommend looking at some of the tv options.

I'm currently using 2 LG's (32LN5300 + 32LB5600) and a Cintiq. Both cost under $300 via online shopping.

(The LB5600 is pretty much just a newer version of the above, has an IPS panel.)

If you read reviews saying the text is blurry for PC use, it means they didnt realize they have to set the display ID for PC input, this effectively turns the TV into a proper monitor.

If you get a TV for a monitor, make sure it has a PC or game mode, and check the latency. Some TVs are too slow to be good monitors.

that would be awesome! 5k monitors for the lose, Id rather have tons of awesome shaders and effects and run a game at standard HD than run it at 5K at 10fps

I somewhat agree with you gir. I think 1600p and Ultra wide are good options, but really, 4k monitors are only great for working with 4k movies and working on high resolution pictures/photoshop projects. They aren't great for games or most productivity related work. I'd rather see better panels and display times at the current resolutions. My ideal monitor today would be an affordable, 1600p, 120hz, IPS, gsync monitor.

4k is nice in that it reduces artifacts in many ways by having small pixels, but it's not worth the extra GPU it takes to run.

Guys I need another opinion.
This came up just now when my friend told me about his monitor he has 2 x Dell UltraSharp 24 Monitor U2414H. Which is 399usd per screen.

What I'm buying is one Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitor U2715H. Which is 699usd. This will be used as my main monitor then the one I have now will be my secondary monitor for references. it's a samsung 21.5 inch monitor which I bought 4 years ago.

I have this monitor, one of caps burned out, I have yet to replace it, did the same thing happen to yours, it is quite common with this monitor ?
