Draw on surface extend

Hey guys,

I am following a tutorial for creating wraps on a gun:

I have the options selected, and I have my gun stock selected. I was holding shift and trying to drag/click but it wasn't extending my plane. Did I do something wrong?

Why not simply extract area polygons and use push modifier, it's what the PROS do.

There is nothing that matches this.

peanut I don't really understand, I am trying to make a wrap which wraps around, goes under itself, etc.

if you have 3dcoat, it takes a few seconds to do exactly this with it

I don't have 3d coat, the tutorial and the method seemed good, I just can't get it to work. I am probably pressing the wrong key or something

I don't know man, I can't get it to not work. Maybe reset the xforms on the high and low poly models, and try again.

Can you explain how you are doing it? Maybe I misunderstood the tutorial. Also what are xforms?

Xforms is a little option that lets you reset your bounding box to its original state after intensive cuts, bevel, and extrusions. In 3dsmax its located in the utility tab and named "reset Xforms".

I would still like to get the draw on surface to work, I liked the results the guy got, I will try it tomorrow after doing the Xforms thing

If you don't know what Reset XForms means then that's probably the issue. Objects in 3ds Max have scale and rotation data stored at the object level. Non-Uniform and negative scale will typically cause problems with modeling, baking, and game engines. You can read more about it here:

Again try resetting both your high and low and try the tool again.
