3ds Max peel mapping not symmetrical

Has anyone else had the issue where a symmetrical object doesn't unwrap symmetrically when using the peel option?

It's quite frustrating as it unwraps non symmetrical objects fine, very little stretching, some nice tools for resizing etc, but on symmetrical objects it's pointless. I've hit the peel button a few times and it does it's best to level things out but it's always way off.

I would recommend using relax after you peel it like that which should produce a more symmetrical island. Also, when unwrapping organic or more curved shapes like you have here, I typically just projection map from one direction (in order to get UVS with no seam) and then select edges that I want to be the seam, hit break, and then use relax.

This happens to me quite a bit. Try resetting your xform and be absolutely sure the UV cuts are the same on both sides.

You can also unwrap half, apply the symmetry modifier to the mesh. That will get you UV's that perfectly overlap. Then if you need to, you can flip and weld one of the overlapping shells.

Would be nice if you could put a mirror line into the uv editor though to use all the tools on both sides of a symmetry line though, maybe in Max 2020?
