Hey there! This forum seems like a great place to learn as a 3d-artist. It's been fascinating to check out other people's progression. I'm starting a sketchbook, critique is welcome and appreciated!

These sketches are me trying out ideas for a mountainous fantasy level that I hope to implement in Cryengine when I'm more skilled.

Tried my hand at painting a still life in Photoshop for the first time. Let me present to you: stuff that sits on my desk!

Took me a good seven hours. Key takeaway: don't zoom! Or if you must, only zoom as little as possible to maintain a sense of where things are positioned. Luckily I only got stuck doing incorrect details a couple of times, I had just heard someone mention that in a Youtube video. There's a pic of the scene included as well (taken after painting).

I was working on some tutorials again and kept getting frustrated at my inability of drawing the kind of lines I want to draw with a Wacom Intuos. Even just a basic straight line takes way too much effort as I have not completely adapted to drawing on a tablet yet. Thus I decided to practice, here's the result.

If someone is experiencing similar frustrations: a key tip that has helped me a lot is taping a piece of paper on top of the Intuos. It does not interfere with the pressure-sensitive surface but stops my hand from not sliding due to sweating. The texture of paper feels more familiar too. The rest of the difficulty seems to be due to not looking where the hand is and the mismatch between the tablet and the screen in resolution and aspect ratio. I'm slowly getting used to it. The only cure seems to be practice, practice and practice.

School work: dangerous environment concept. This was fun to work on, feels like the most advanced piece I've painted so far. I'm mostly a 3D guy but feels great to have noticeably improved in painting too!

Wow, this thread has become very bloaty, I need to find a moment to resave my megaheavy pngs as jpgs. Wonder if anybody sees these posts or has the bloat scared everyone away...? *EDIT* DONE! Yeah, no. 29Mb PNGs are really really not needed on the web.

Here's another piece from the concept art course we're currently doing at school -- the guy on the right is definitely my favorite.

I tend to get distracted by shiny glowy stuff and then I tend to want to make shiny glowy stuff. Not directly game art related but still using many same tools and these are definitely sketches in the sense that I just sit down to get an idea out quickly.
