I liked the snip tool but I think I might be getting a loss in quality with it, something definitely seems up sometimes.

If you use jpg you get really bad compression. If you use png there is no compression on the image.

yeah, ive always used png, never had issues. Use it frequently to write notes and comments on images, insert images into docs/mails, compare/contrast texture/shader/lighting changes. I copy a majority of the time instead of saving it, which is dangerous, but copying and pasting to photoshop never has artifacts.

also, if you're a oneNote user, windows+s does the same thing, but will plop the image directly into oneNote w/o automatically. super fast.

Seconding Greenshot .. it has made my life SO much simpler. Hit printscreen, draw a box, and the image is saved to disk AND placed on the clipboard. Couldn't be easier.

Another vote for Greenshot. Also uploads to Dropbox, etc. Wish the jpg compression was as good as PS though.
