Hi 3d coat users, just wondered what are your settings for hand painting textures in 3d coat or do u guys stick to the generic default? Although 3d coat is amazing in many aspects but it seems to be lacking the photoshop brush feel when I paint, any thoughts out there?

I've adjusted the brush sensitivity in preferences fairly low to get the feel I like. I've been using it for about 2 years in a production environment and do about 95% of my painting inside it.

I remember buying 3d Coat for the re-topo tools but ended up using it as my primary tool for doing texture work. On the right pane there is a tab labeled Options. In this tab you can trick out the brush to jitter, rotate along stroke, depth variations and various other features. Perhaps you might find something in there that would suit your needs.

you can also hit ctrl alt p to send the current view to photoshop and projection paint on it in photoshop. of course projection painting can have issues. i use this once in a while when i miss some of my photoshop brushes.

I mostly alternate between a hard- and soft-edged brush, as well as a thin rake-like one. I use blur (shift) a lot, and consequently miss it in other painting software all the time! The longer I use 3dcoat, I also find myself using more of the specialised tools, like the smudge, bulge, copy/paste, gradient-baking, splines, stencils... there are so many great tools in there, it's really just a great all-around painting package.

Yeah! And cube mapped stencil, I cant live without it.
I've heard that they will release 4.1 soon, which is sculpting-focused and after that they are going to develop texturing further.
