Hey guys!
Planning on adding more/new hand painted art to my portfolio so I'd thought I'd share my stuff.
First off: A Brick Texture!
Using some techniques I learned from the Vertex 2 tutorial from Fanny Vergne, I created a high poly sculpt in zbrush then tiled it in 3ds max. After baking out some textures and layering them I painted over it and picked out some edges.
Critiques are welcomed!

The cracks look a little strange, specifically how small fragments don't look like they've fractured. This would make sense if this was the floor, but gravity should be affecting the small pieces such that they are resting on top of the larger stone.
If these bricks are cracked, fragments should look moved and off kilter a bit.
The meander pattern is a bit smooth vs. being stone carved and polished. You're also missing the same edge wear like on the bigger purple rocks. Makes them look like one solid color (or else the edges are too subtle).
Keep going with it, it's a great looking piece. Play around with other types of wear, like water, grime, bullet holes (if relevant), blood splats, graffiti, etc.
Even tiling textures can tell a story.
Choose a warm color for highlights and a cold one for shadows, and add color variation to your stone, it should not look monochromatic like that. I can't explain it very well, here's something :
The sculpt is a great guide for light direction and texture, but since it's hand-painted most of the work is expected to come from how you choose and place your colors. You already added color variation between rocks, which is also great.
I decided to go do a more "classic" hand painted style to practice my colour blending.
I'm currently planning out a diorama for my next piece. Definitely something with a bit of foliage.
