Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker Outset Island

So I originally started this for the VG Remix contest but with weddings and other shinanigas I didnt even come close to finishing ha. So I decieded to create a thread here to force me to finish it because I was liking where it was going.

So its Outset Island from Wind Waker done in the style of 22cans kickstarter game Godus.

Style I am aiming for...

Blockout, as the best things are always blocked out first and foremost...

First island look test...

Finished Islands models (needs a bit of geo cleanup though), now onto props and other such oddity's!

Really like the style of Godus too, the lighting in the lower right of the example image is really nice.

Really excited to see this pan out! Stupid question, but how did you approach the materials for the island? I'm used to unwrapping individual assets and such but I'm never sure how I should unwrap and texture terrain, especially in large pieces like that.

If you could let me in on some tips I'd really appreciate it!

So I finished this guy up on right before new years. I tried adding pixelated textures to the terrain like the buildings but I didn't like the look of things. It no longer looked like the original renders of flat solid colors that I based things off so I kept them as solid colors. I like the simplicity of things better for this piece anyway than over detailing things

Also added it to sketchfab incase you want to tumble around the scene. And yes I know the terrain has a crazy amount of useless edge loops all over the place, its just the way that I built it and never needed to optimize things as its just for show :P

It's soo cool!

I wish you could have lighting in there to have a great bright sun in the sky but it still looks great(like the marmo). Awesome style and props for finishing it up!

I recently got myself a wii u to play the hd remake again!

you did a really good job in capturing the essence of the game in an other style!

Are more islands coming or was this a one shot thing?

Very nice. I bought a Wii U yesterday and have been playing Wind Waker HD. Your scene really captures the island well in that interesting Godus style. Awesome.

Needs Beedles boat shop! Maybe some seagulls and pigs, and some sort of representation of tall grass? Over all, looking good.

@ParadoxTLH I totally forgot about Beedles boat shop! Some pigs and seagulls would have been good to add. I tried tall grass but it was just too noisy and wanted to keep it in the Godus style of super simple and just flat colors representing grass.

@Fnitrox No other islands are planned, this was just a fun one off thing. Always looking to do new art stuff
