Hey guys, I worked on this concept for the monthly 2D challenge and I was quite happy with the result, so I decided to bring it further and started modeling it from my concept. I'm quite the newb but I'm slowly getting the grasp over some basic stuff. Any comment and critique is welcome! (I'm having so much fun with this

I'm not even sure that I'm doing good, any help would be great. For now I just planar/camera mapped the blade
I would probably reduce the amount of polygons on the blade itself and put it in the handle. The handle looks way too facetted compared to the blade imo.
About unwrapping the skull, check the attachments.
That being said a little bit of stretching should not be an issue.
Hope that helped.
I halved the polycount of the blade(now the whole thing is 700 tris) and connected it to the hilt, then I cutted the hilt in half and mirrored it to save UVspace. I think that after testing with the skull's UVs I can start to paint the textures!
I finished the UV and started a basic color blockout
