Cutting holes in Zbrush

Need help cutting a hole into a mesh. I've tried doing it with dynamesh and an insert brush but it doesn't seem to work.

I insert a cylinder like so:

Then press the sub button and it just adds it...

I've tried holding ALT when I insert the cylinder too.

You need to press ALT when you draw your cylinder, not when you re-mesh.

Thanks for those videos. I've tried the method of setting a subtool to subtractive, merging it into the other subtool and then dynameshing but it's appending it instead of removing it like in my original screenshots. I've done exactly as he does and once merged the cylinder is the white polygroup that it should be but it wont subtract it! Something's broken.

Maybe try to make the inserted tool a lot longer. That could help.

Yep, that was my problem at one point, I needed to make the cylinder or shape I wanted booleaned/cut out/subtracted LARGER in order for Zbrush to make the calculations.

Sure it might mess up what you've already got because of the larger size of the cylinder, but that's the good thing about Zbrush, you can fix things pretty simply.

Well I tried with a fresh file just using a cube and cylinder (cylinder was pretty big in relation to the cube) and again it appended it. Have no idea why. I'm 100% sure I'm doing it correctly.
