Zbrush undo history no longer saves

Howdy! I've been trying to do some more tutorial videos, but Zbrush isnt cooperating.
When I first downloaded 4r5, I could save and reload my undo history in a Zproject. Then one day that functionality just stopped working. I know there is a preferences setting to turn on history saving, and to disable loading.
I am set to save history, and not skip...yet it does not work.
Any ideas?
