This is my first attempt at a modular environment for a university project, my concept I am aiming at is a cartoon style frontier village. I have still to add a few more props like cactus and a broken wagon. My tri limit is 15,000. any advice or constructive criticism is welcome

Things are looking a little too rigid. You need to rotate the buildings slightly and vary the heights so that it doesn't have so many straight lines.

Can you show your wireframe? You are almost at the limit. Im curious where you wasted a lot of triangles.

Thanks guys, the buildings seem a little less rigid when the textures are on, but is still a little visible, could be the way I have set the pivot points on the grid? I'll try and adjust them in the meantime

Obscura, the excessive tris are from the train tracks I believe, they are about 900 per asset which is due to the complex way that I made them, so I embedded them in the floor panel for the time being, I may have to remake them simpler so I have more tris to add props, but here are the wireframes for you to look at

Delete all the edges, which ones are not defining the mesh's shape. And use floating geometries for the sub elements.And delete the back side of your floor.I personally would using simple planes for the floor.or a more optimized version: one plane, with cutouts for the dented meshes.

Yeah, that makes more sense, I managed to get my train tracks from 900 down to just over 300 by deleting unrequired faces and vertex which gives me more tris to play with for other models. My whole scene now is 12,096 after the cleanup. thanks for the help

Generally, the environment terrain is made as one giant mesh, and roads are usually projected or painted on(old/dirt roads anyway). In other words:you don't have to be that accurate with your building placement and you don't have to make your village as a bunch of square blocks.

Don't pay too much attention to the out of place square on the building, thats just a seperate plane for a wanted poster

Yes, and the horizontal plank on the fence is separated too. and dont forget to delete all the unvisible poly-s on everithing.
