Hi guys,

Recently I've been looking into starting to learn hand-painting when it comes to props and texturing. It's an area that really interests me.

I thought I'd have a go today at a totem pole from the Sonic games.

Bear in mind I'm still quite new to modelling too.

Any crit would be great!

    Hello nathan
    Very good your initiative :)
You said it was new to modeling
Then focus on modeling simple objects, like the ones you did.
Before you begin, look for good references, here in the forum have excelent references to hand-painted stuff.
I think you should focus primarily on the diffuse map, I think is the most important.
And you have to get a good result with the diffuse map, without relying on other maps and render effects.
Keep studying, and post your pictures in this thread, this way we can fallow your progress.
    Good Luck

It doesn't really feel handpainted, more hand-filtered.
