Alphas from Difference

Hello,

I had an idea and wanted to see if anyone had tried it. I've baked a complete map, and a straight diffuse map, and i was wanting to use the difference between these two as an alpha channel, so i can keep my tiling textures on the bottom.

Does that make sense?

Has anyone tried this?

Cheers.

I'm guessing you mean subtracting one of the maps from the other for the alpha? What would a "complete map" be? I'm just trying to visualize what the result of the difference would be. :P

I think he's refering to the 'complete' map found in Apps like Max, which bake out AO, Cavity, Diffuse, etc in one single map?

Although that wouldn't make sense, since there so much 'wrong' information in a Complete vs. having specialized maps (Spec, Diffuse, Normal, etc).

Berman, mind showing us an example of the two maps and where/what you want to tile?
