can someone help me with this UV conundrum?

Im used to working with full scale UV's (non-normalized) because if for example i need to edit the topology, adding the new geometry to the existing UV clusters is easier since it is automatically correctly scaled.

The problem is that when my UV's are full size, the map tiles on it 10^100000x so i cant properly adjust the UVs in place on the texture sheet.

so is there some way i can adjust the tiling of the map on the UV's and still be able to edit the UV's in full size?
