Zbrush 4 Export problem

I'm having an issue when I export my sculpted rock from Zbrush. Now I have been googling for days and tried everything I can think of but now I've just decided it would be easier to ask for help.

Basically when I import my sculpted rock into Maya there is massive holes in the mesh, like large portions of it are missing. I'm not sure whether I've done something wrong whilst sculpting, pressed something accidentally or its a problem with Zbrush.

I retopologised in Zbrush also, and if I put the details on high, make the new mesh a polymesh3d and export THAT, then theres no problems, but I've accidently deleted the zbrush file with my topology in it :(

Here's some images:

From the front, no problems:

The other side, however:

Is it me being a dope?

Are there separate polygroups? Some options to try:
-make it into a single group before exporting,
-take what you have now and hit the make polymesh button, export that
-run decimation master on it (new mesh/topology, and a lighter file to boot)
    -remesh or dynamesh and export

also try importing into another app, to see if it's a problem on Maya's side or what (you can load it in the Xnormal viewer for instance, that's free).
But yeah as cryrid suggested, decimating seems like the best solution, and will be easier on Maya.
