I want to make a window that looks like this:

1) I can use the "insert edge loop tool" to cut all the vertical and horizontal shapes, but then I get stuck on the diagonal cuts. I can do them using the "split polygon tool", but how can I make sure that the angles I'm cutting them are exactly the same on both sides?
2) I used the extrude tool and then deleted the sides to get the frame. It looks like this:

Everytime I try to move the frame, or any of the faces in the UV texture editor, it comes out like this awful thing:

Does this have something to do with the extrude tool?
Any suggestions on how to avoid this?
3) Also, I need to have a low poly face count, but even if I delete the edges the number of "tries" are still the same. What's going on there?

3. your deleting the edges, you aren't deleting the vertexs that the edges create.
i'm a 3ds max guy so can't really help on number 2, no idea whats going on there
