I'm teaching my kids and a small group of friends some things in Max right now... and one thing that came up was seamless, tiling textures. Most people seem to do all this in Photoshop and other apps... but I prefer to do as much as possible right inside Max. Here's a little tutorial on converting photos into seamless textures with only 3ds Max.

Hopefully this helps some new users.

Cool stuff, any Idea why it slows to a crawl when you try to use a tiling uv? 3x3 tiling shouldn't be that slow, eh?

Unfortunately, Viewport Canvas is really slow when painting on an object with tiled UVs. Just try painting on a basic Box() primitive...

So until it works well with multiple tiling, you should pretty much always limit your painting space to a 1x1 tile. Hopefully it will be faster in 2013...

Still... I do like using this method instead of having to go to an image editor.
