Question! When you say DX9,10 or 11 GPU you mean the actual GPU's highest compatibility right? Since I'm pretty sure Windows XP can't use any DX10 or 11 features.

Correct, what the GPU is capable of. Really anyone with a DX10 or DX11 card shouldn't be using XP, because it only supports DX9.

we still got tons and tons of XP workstations at work though. at least a couple hundreds

Still rocking a 9800gtx over here with DX10. Waiting on Kepler before going DX11.

... and yea I should have waited for Kepler cards to hit before jumping to DX11, I haven't used it much other than to ogle some of the fancy bits of UDK.

If you're waiting for Kepler you still have a very long wait, budget (aka not worth upgrading to) is projected for March, mid range to replace the 560 is projected for 2nd Quarter, highish End Early 3rd Quarter and actual high end close to the end of 2012 maybe even 2013.

Might as well buy a card when you see a good deal... or buy one of the new AMD cards if you like seeing your 3d apps do weird and wonderful things they're not supposed to.
