Hi there folks,
I am at the point to start my first large scale environment but have problems with the following:
1.How to determine the scale?
2.How should i set up my grid? I'm using maya
Thats about it...and one more thing
i am looking for a person who can make a video series for me how he creates environments. The environment must me non-urban. I prefer a medieval environment or fantasy environment (something like Jasons Demon throne). I will pay for the series of corse

Make a quick top down layout of the map to get a feeling on where everything should be, get into UDK or whatever you use to make your level and then block it out first hand.
The scale should be proportional the the player models.
for the grid i have no idea i use 3ds max but never really botherd about the grid, since i only make assets and props in 3ds max the rest i do in UDK.

be carefull there mate, working to a grid is par for the course in Environment art, suggesting it can simply be ignored is pretty bad advice. making environments usually requires alot of modular work, which works much more smoothly when created on a grid.

there is no need to hire people to make you tutorials, there are loads of paid tutorials on the net, which will be much cheaper and better quality than what most random folks will record for you.
