Cintiq 12wx

Hey there!

So I'm considering buying the Cintiq 12wx but I was wondering what peoples opinions were of it?

I recently sold my Intuos3, and I'm looking to put the money towards the 12wx. I've used the large Cintiq's before but they're a bit on the large side for me.

Let me know why I should, or shouldn't buy it!

I think the size is nice, but the screen is kind of shitty, and the button layout is way out of date compared to the newer models. Frankly, I would wait until they come out with a new version, which can't be too long since the current model is years old.

i rarely use mine as it is supposed to, not because of the monitor beeing shitty, i think its wuite al right, its just so small it doesn't feel that good, so i use it mostly like an intuos.

I bought one, it was nice but the screen was just too small for me personally. 21ux is just perfect :x

I love mine. Use it everyday. I don't have as big of an issue with the size.
If you can afford the 21" and have the space for it then get it. The 12" is small enough for me to keep in a drawer thus keeping the overall workspace clean and uncluttered.

I own one and I'm not a fan, small resolution makes it difficult to use in a lot of apps.

it sounds like if your going to go cintiq, you need to go all the way. if your worried about the screen not looking all that great, then save some cash and get the intuos4 medium.

i personally cant vouch for any of the comments about it, as im still using a shitty bamboo fun, but unless i find myself with an extra 2k in cash, im looking at the intuos4 medium myself as an upgrade

neox: why not just go with an intous4? if your not using the screen then it seems like the hardware is a bit wasted..

it was cheap at that point and i had to spend some taxes

paid like 25% off and together with the 19% i get on work equipment as a freelancer and other taxstuff i kinda thought it would be a nice thing to have. At this point the intuos4 series didn't exist already and i wanted to exchange my old intuos2 with something newer.

I wouldn't buy it if i were you. I use one at work every day and I kind of prefer an Intuos at times. Used in combination maybe it'd be better... But I find that the cintiq 12wx just interrupts my workflow. The lack of screen real estate is hindering and the cursor gets a bit jittery near the borders. I say that if you're gonna spend this much for a cintiq you might as well just wait just a little longer and go for the larger one. Also keep in mind that if you wish to keep a dual screen set up and use the cintiq, you'll need an additional video card. Unless your current video card already supports more than a dual monitor display. Pretty much, I think that the 12wx is an unnecessary luxury.

Thanks a lot for your opinions, I really appreciate them. I'm still on the fence but at least I'm not in a rush to purchase it. I'm pretty sure they'll bring a new one out relatively soon too.

Just to thought I would add this. Motion Computing LE1600 can get one on ebay for around 150 quid.

Can read up about them here. Lots of people love them.

I'm considering that tablet pc too. I'm using a bamboo fun, which I think has 256 sensitivity? But it works perfect for me, I can do anything I want with that much sensitivity. If I can get that on that tablet pc, I'll be VERY happy. My budget doesn't allow for any cintiq, or cintiq ripoff, so the tablet pc seems like the next best thing.

I'm just wondering how well it works for PS with no keyboard? Anyone who has experience with this kind of thing, please let us know. Thanks.
