-Sometimes they look dead/like zombies. Thats because the shutter speed was so slow that if they blinked it'd capture both eye open and eye shut in the photograph.

Incredible how they pull their pants up so high. How on earth do they make them stay up like that? They must have suspenders as strong as bungee jumping cords.

I think we had an exhibition over in auz showing these - it depicted the photos also with a little bit of the story behind the faces - like one of the females was supposedly a brothel madame/owner

People looked so much different. Women had more real, earthly beauty rather than the artificial beauty that prevails in modern times, and men looked sharp/gruff. You can feel the roughness of their skin, almost.
