I will be getting my portfolio up soon but was wondering about the site design (quickly done in photoshop, please ignore site content) in terms of being quick and efficient enough to get to content before going on to the next step.
Yeah I like the design. If that's the first thing you see when you go onto pixelgent.com then that's the quickest and most efficient that you can get really.
Good sir, I went to your website and it hastily called me a nancy boy.
I'll have you know that I am no nancy boy. In fact, I'm quite the brute for a gamedev of my limmited weight. I do believe I am insulted sir.
Also, I like your site design, just make sure that one of the first things people see along with the site title is your actual name.
Contact info is a good idea as well.
the search would only be there on the blog page i may leave it out entirely, i have it coded very bad but it works. the navigation is top to bottom in IE though because it doesn't support some of the html5 and css3 elements i used as of yet.
Its very easy to add and remove content to witch was the main goal. i just have to figure out how to make this main part my tumblr theme now to intigrate a blog.
I really like the idea, ive been thinking about doing something similar if i ever get any spare time. The pixel art really takes me back, definitely keep that as your calling card, i think people will identify you by it. Although, nancy boy or not, the grey and brown does clash somewhat.
Yeah that was what i was refering to, then again you did say to ignore that, so im just being picky. Reminds me alittle bit of my habbo hotel days, i used to love pixel art.
I like your site layout and the work here is awesome.
What are you trying to do with it, though? You've got a mish-mash of mobile-spec cutesy pixel-art stuff, and then a few simple props built towards modern specs. Nothing you're demonstrating is particularly complex or difficult, and the reality is that bathroom scales and intercoms are the kind of things that get outsourced a lot because they do not have enough eyeball-time to need iterative art development.
You've got that WIP shot of the District 9 gun, those sorts of more complex props are going to help flesh out your portfolio and make you more hireable.
Right now you're demonstrating a comfort zone of simplistic, fast objects, and that's going to pigeon-hole you and hold you back.
Love the color scheme and presentation and even the art, but if you step back from the individual assets and look at the bigger picture, they are not painting you as a widely-talented artist nor are they giving a particularly clear direction as to where you would like to be.
I like the layout of the site. But if I was looking to hire someone... who is Pixelgent ? the main title and thing that stands out is your handle/screen name. Why not make it your real name?
I know its your super duper cool online identity and all. I did the same thing on my site, but changed it to my actual name since its more professional.
I asked several people, including professionals & people who do hiring and they said it looks stupid... its annoying because they don't know who it is, and its a little cocky.
Korrax has some points regarding identity branding. I think that you could still use pixelgent but in someway consider to incorporate your own name into the design so your title is Willy "Pixelgent" Wilson, rather then just pixelgent. But the website name is catchy and definitly easy to remember!

It let contents breath and is very simple so the eye can find the information very quickly, i like it !

Also, the logo currently looks sorta broken because it matches the BG color and as thus looks like transparent flat shapes instead of shaded volume.
Good work
and what grey are you talking about btw? its all shades of brown.
i'm still thinking you could reduce it more.
Nice site layout, style
Wily, how about making everything brown and color them on hover-over?
Any feedback would be welcomed, this is some of what im going to be showing at so if you have something to say say it now.

You should make a big environment, that can take the attention of the hirer.
And i love your props and textures, very nice .
