Sweep issue.

Hey there, First time poster age long lurker, just the usual.
I'm having some trouble in 3ds Max when using the sweep modifier on some splines.
For many projects, even the entire length of the project I'm on now, Ive been successfully able to sweep splines into basic shapes.
The problem is lately every now and then when i go to sweep a spline the resulting shape is all...how do i say it off axis? rotated weirdly.
Anyway i have attached some pictures with my problem, the bottom image is the sweep result from the top, they come out as diamonds when they should be square.

Which is weird, im detaching the face before i make any cuts into it for 'creat spline from selected' so its seriouly only a 4 sided face nothing else, untill i make cuts in it.
Just to make sure im doin' it right.
Utilities>reset Xform?
After that, try going to "Affect Pivot Only" and hit Reset Transform and Reset Scale.
I tried reseting Xform on the root object from wich im making my splines from also.
