So, I've been working for months to show this, figured I'd give you guys a closer look at the Highpoly model I created for Eat3D.

We didn't mention the Caterpillar or CAT brand anywhere in/on the DVD since these things are actually a bit controversial in their use.

Any further plans for it? Are you gonna make a game-spec version?
I'm curious, Are you using your shader at all in the tut?
Thor: just in the intro, I needed it to look really good in the viewport so I could interact with it on video. Not recommended though, it got noticeably slower when applying my shader to about 2milion tri's.
Yeah, all the knives, axes, flamethrowers, nailguns, tanks and gunship helicopters we see in games and portfolios, they're okay. This? Totally inappropriate.

Thanks dude. The .50cal is also one of the most interesting parts, as are the tracks.
This really isn't the place to discuss that, but I hope you realize that there are many other military vehicles that have caused more civilian deaths than this thing. I really find it irrelevant, all I do is portray the shape, since it provides an interesting subject. It's not even meant as art in the artistic way, just a study.
Oh and "cashing in": I really am not getting rich off of this.
Illusions:
I think it's very generic; if you have the standard 3D skills to model something highpoly in
Maya, then you should be able to transfer everything. If you can't manage that, then I think you need some basic Maya training before you should think of starting this DVD.
there's only a few specific sections: the tracks use a special script, but I'm sure Maya can do similar. Then there's the rendersetup, though mental ray for maya might be really similar.
So in short, if you expect a "hold my hand" DVD then this is the wrong product wether you use Max or Maya, but if you want to gain insight on what the workflow is for such a complicated thing, both apps should be OK.
