Weird shadows showing up on my head.

My 3D head, I mean.

Rendering with mental ray, final gather turned on. Raytrace is not turned on ... I don't think. Wondering why I'm getting these weird shadows.

normals facing in the wrong direction maybe? some vertices not welded?

Yeah that looks like a problem with your normals, does it still show up if you turn off the normal map channel and render?

Inverted UVW normals will do that. Check all your UVW verts and normals in those spots.

check the way your face (quad is facing).... that is the other thing i can think of.. if the face is in the wrong direction it will render black.. unless u select 2 sided.

Also maybe check what direction your verts are pointing. cause if when you are casting your normals and your vert directions is pointing some wacky direction. it will cause issues like this. Just a theory that you might want to look into.
