3ds max painting weights

Hey there polycount,

I was wondering if there was a way I could manually assign percentage values to vertices in max when painting weights? The skin modifier lets me paint them via colors etc but I can't seem to find something along the lines of a manual type in box.

You can use the weights table.

I always use the options "Selected Vertices" and "Flip UI"

I love painting weights just be sure to uncheck "Paint Blend Weights"

ctrl+Shift+LMB drag = Increase/decrease brush size.
Alt+shift+LMB drag = Increase/decrease brush strength.
Hold Alt while painting to reverse the brush.

But when you have to tweak a few verts by hand the Weight Tools (little wrench) like Piflik pointed out are the way to go. Don't forget about mirror mode... oh how that saves time.

I just set my skin quad menu to have a bunch of the preset vertex weights in them. I guess you could also assign the same things to some shortcuts if all you do is skin stuff all day.

Hey, im trying out the paint weights and when im using "paint blend weights" there is almost no difference in the weight, but when i uncheck the "paint blend weights" the mesh turns very jagged, some of the vertices get alot more weight than the other ones within the area that i paint. The paint weight settings are at default except for the "max. strength" i took it down to .05 since the default value of 1 was waaay to strong.

Any advise on how to not get the jagged mesh with painting weights?

Hm, ok. Hope not, ive scaled it down to match the highpoly version of the model. Currently painting one and one vertex.
